The Japanese are the masters of the kind of weird inventions that make you burst out laughing…then you realize you need one. I love discovering these things, and I hope you’ll enjoy guessing what they’re used for too!
Every month I’ll post a photo of something that I didn’t have any idea what it was until someone explained it to me, so you can guess too! I’ll post the answer in the next Japanagram, along with the next mystery object.
The bafflers will have two things in common:
1: They fill an only-in-Japan niche
Like this squid stretcher, for instance:

If you try to grill a squid at home in your broiler, apparently it curls up and doesn’t cook evenly. With this handy device, your grilled squid will stay flat and broil perfectly:

2: They’ll solve a single problem and solve it perfectly
For example, this ear cleaner

Handcrafted from bamboo to your personal specifications, your ear wax is history.
Okay, are you ready to try your luck?
What the heckin’ heck is THIS used for?

Post your best guess in the comments!
