If you recognize your email, congratulations!
You just won a copy of Kazuo Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun!
If you think this is you, shoot a message to JapanagramJonelle@gmail.com and tell me if you’d like an ebook or paperback (and if paperback, let me know a mailing address you’d like it sent to) and I’ll get it to you soonest.
If I didn’t pull your name from the hat this time, you might get lucky next time! This month, I’m giving away a copy of Sei Shōnagon’s The Pillow Book, so check the September-October Japanagram to see if it’s your lucky day.
How I pick the winners: On the last day of each month, I load all the email addresses of Japanagram subscribers into a random name picker on the Web and ask it to choose subscribers to match however many books I’m giving away that month. Then I publish the emails in the next day’s Japanagram (all emails obscured in a way so only the subscriber will be able to recognize it as their own, of course!)
Want to be automatically entered to win each issue’s book? Subscribe to Japanagram! It’s free.

I am the lucky book winner. Thanks! I’d prefer a paper copy. Please send it to 3017 Wheeler Street, Berkeley, California 94705.
Thanks too for your very enjoyable blog.
We have a friend in common, Liza Dalby. Small world.

Hi Marcia! Congratulations! And huge apologies for being so slow off the mark—your copy of Klara and the Sun is winging its way to you as we speak. Enjoy! (Also, how lucky we are to have that mutual friend in common! I hope I get to meet you someday, because any friend of Liza’s is likely to be someone I would love to be friends with too ^_^)
Klara and the Sun just arrived. No apologies necessary, for crying out loud! I have begun reading. Thanks again!
I wholeheartedly invite you to visit me in my fabulous and beloved garden when you’re next in the Bay Area. Liza would surely join us. My address is above and my phone number is 1 510 640 4847.

Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry your kind invite slipped past me! When summer is over and traveling done, I would love to take you up on it. It’s always such a pleasure to see Liza, and meet other women who love Japan, books and reading as much as I do!
