She’s So Cosmo Cocktail/Mocktail

Red Shiso Cosmopolitan Cocktail, with or without a kick!

Whether you’re flinging caution to the wind or keeping dry, give your favorite classic cocktail a distinctly Japanese kick with the taste of tart and tangy red shiso instead of cranberry!

Makes 1 drink

1 shot vodka

1 shot Grand Marnier

1 shot red shiso syrup*

1/2 shot lime juice

1 shot water*

Directions:
Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, pour into a martini glass and garnish with a twist of orange peel.

*I liked more lime and shiso and less alcohol, so I substituted a shot of water instead of the two shots of vodka in a traditional Cosmopolitan, but if you’re feeling brave…

Makes 1 drink

1 shot red shiso syrup

1 shot lime juice

1/2 t. (2ml) apple cider vinegar

Chilled sparkling water

Directions:
Shake all ingredients except sparkling water in a cocktail shaker with ice, pour into a martini glass. Top up with chilled sparkling water and garnish with a twist of orange peel.

*You can buy red shiso syrup online. The one I used is the one on the right. The Choya brand pictured on the left and center is already alcoholic, so you can substitute two shots of Choya Red Shiso for the red shiso syrup and vodka in the cocktail recipe:
