Which one do YOU like best?

Here are the first rough cover ideas my publisher sent me for my new historical mystery, The Samurai’s Octopus! Which one would get YOUR attention in an I-might-like-to-read-that way? (No need to remember what it’s about—someone chancing across it on Amazon or at a bookstore won’t know either, and this is how we persuade them to pick it up and read more…)

Jonelle Patrick writes novels set in Japan, and blogs at Only In Japan and The Tokyo Guide I Wish I’d Had
They are all so beautiful! I guess I prefer #1 (green background) and #4 (gold background)

Elaine, thank you so much for your votes! I too love those covers, and if the designer can make the title read a bit more easily, those are the ones I’ll be cheering for too.

Yrene, thank you for your votes! I’ll pass them on to my publisher (they ask my opinion, but in the end, they choose the cover). And even bigger thanks for saying the words every writer longs to hear “I enjoyed your book”! Because of you, I will be smiling all day!
Also, you’re a ceramist? What kind of ceramics do you make? After writing The Last Tea Bowl Thief, I have huge HUGE respect for anyone who works with clay! Is there somewhere I can see your work?

I like #5. The blue and coral combination is very striking and eye-catching.

Thanks for weighing in! I love the colors on that one too. Also, two of the main characters are called Birdie and Flower, so in a subtle way, it hints at what’s inside…
